Animals!

Thanks to the hard work of Jon Rosenberg and friends, IronRuby is now officially an Open Source project. On Friday October 12, the OSI approved the Microsoft Public License (or the license formerly known as the Microsoft Permissive License) and the Microsoft Reciprocal License (aka Microsoft Community License).

While many in the community have acknowledged that this was a formality, it’s good to put the nonproductive license lawyering behind us so that we can focus on delivering a great Ruby implementation to the community.

    It’s got an Open Source license, but is it truly Open Source software? Sure, I can get my hands on the source code, but can I contribute to it? Fix it? Patch it, commit code or do anything to influence the future releases of IronRuby?

    hi John,
    after reading the news I finally decided to have a look on IronRuby.
    currently, the only issue I`ve found is the lack of a true compiler, one that can generate an assembly (dll or exe).
    the only thing I`ve seen in this direction is the -X:SaveAssemblies option on rbx.
    am I missing something? thaks a lot
